- The Kurdish forcesoperating along the Iran-Iraq border are considered one of the most prominent armed opposition groups confronting the regime in Tehran. The organizations involved are Iranian Kurdish groups that maintain thousands of fighters, most of whom operate from territory in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq along the frontier with Iran.
- According to Kurdish sources, these forces have been preparing in recent days to participate in ground operations in western Iran with the aim of pressuring Iranian security forces and dispersing them across multiple arenas. (The Jerusalem Post)
- What about Erdogan in Turkey, a NATO ally who does not like the Kurds very much?
U.S. Submarine sinks Iran prized warship:
“The U.S. has perpetrated an atrocity at sea, 2,000 miles away from Iran's shores. Frigate Dena, a guest of India's Navy carrying almost 130 sailors, was struck in international waters without warning. Mark my words: The U.S. will come to bitterly regret precedent it has set.” (Iran Foreign Minister: Seyed Abbas Araghchi)

Segment Topic:
- Over the past weekend, some apologists for President Donald Trump’s recently ordered attacks on Iran argued that because Trump’s plans call for a quick strike, the attacks do not constitute a war. George Orwell is vindicated yet again.
- These apologists believe that calling a war something else means it is not a war, and so moral and constitutional justifications are unnecessary.
- No rational observer looking at 2,000-pound bombs being dropped on military targets and thousands of missiles being fired indiscriminately at both civilians and military personnel in Iran can conclude that these events constitute anything but a war.
- A United Sates Submarine torpedoed Iran’s prized warship. Some are comparing the sinking to Thomas Jefferson’s Barbary War (1801-1805)
- Wasn’t Iran behind the attack on the USS Cole?
- Supreme Court blocks California ban on notifying students' parents about gender transitions.
- Appeals court clears way for Texas drag ban to take effect in March.
- Senate Bill 12prohibits drag performers from dancing suggestively or wearing certain prosthetics on public property or in front of children. The law would fine business owners $10,000 for hosting such performances, while those who violate the law could be hit with a Class A misdemeanor.
- The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reaffirmed a November ruling removing a block on Senate Bill 12 and denied a request by plaintiffs for a rehearing.

- Should Trump make the trip to Beijing? Is his safety in danger? Could he be poisoned? Could he be exposed to a dangerous pathogen?
- “Trump hit Iran; but he’s really got China in his crosshairs.” (Dr. Steven Mosher/NY Post)
- With Kharg Island, Iran’s main oil export terminal, in flames after Saturday’s US-led attack, China’s energy lifeline is going up in smoke.
- Ignoring international sanctions, oil-thirsty China had long been the Ayatollah Khamenei regime’s main buyer.
- To be sure, China was a cheap customer, paying well below the going market price for Iran’s bootleg oil.
- Not only that, it insisted in paying in Chinese yuan, not dollars, ensuring the money would flow back to China.
- Beijing’s slick sales pitches convinced the Iranians to spend their oil billions buying China’s military and telecommunications equipment — like the “state-of-the-art” radar systems that now lie in smoldering ruinsafter failing to detect the incoming American airstrikes. (Like VZ)
- But the decapitation of Iran’s leadership and the destruction of its Chinese-made defense arsenal aren’t the worst of Beijing’s Middle East woes.
- In March 2023, it brokered a normalization agreement between Shiite Iran and its longtime Sunni adversary Saudi Arabia.
- And then; came Donald Trump and much has changed in the Middle East!
- Donald Trump will be dealing with the Chinese from a position of strength when he visits Beijing later this month!
- According to story on CNBC: Uncertainty is growing over U.S. President Donald Trump’s high-stakes trip to China after Washington targeted a second foreign leader in two months.
- Trump announced over the weekend that joint U.S.-Israel strikes on Iran killed its Supreme LeaderAyatollah Ali Khamenei. In early January, the U.S. also captured Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro and his wife from their residence.
- Analysts say those actions could complicate Trump’s high-stakes trip to Beijing.
- “President Xi Jinpingwon’t feel easy about the death of the top leader of Iran,” said George Chen, partner at The Asia Group, noting Beijing’s relatively good relations with Tehran and Caracas. (CNBC)
