- The Secret Service abruptly halted the security clearance renewal for former Director Kimberly Cheatle.

- Ron Johnson, a Wisconsin Republican who chairs the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations and previously chaired the full Homeland Security panel, argued that Cheatle should not have her security clearance renewed after her leadership decisions contributed to the agency’s numerous failures surrounding the assassination attempt against Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. - Kimberly Cheatle, the former Secret Service director who resigned in disgrace following the attempted assassination of President Donald Trump, has suffered a new professional blow after receiving news her security clearance will not be renewed.
- The decision by the Secret Service, first reported by RealClearPoliticscame after a wave of fierce opposition from Republican lawmakers, including Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin), who led a sweeping investigation into the agency's catastrophic failures at Trump's July 2024 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
- 'Following the security debacle in Butler, the former director of USSS made the right decision to resign,' Johnson said. 'I see no reason for her security clearance to be reinstated.'
- Cheatle, handpicked by then–First Lady Jill Bidenin 2022, had previously led the agency through what congressional investigators later described as one of the most glaring security breakdowns in presidential protection in modern history.
- Trump narrowly survived the July 13, 2024, shooting after a bullet grazed his ear, while a local firefighter, Corey Comperatore, was killed and two others were wounded in the chaos.
- Cheatle stepped down just 10 days later following intense pressure from lawmakers who demanded accountability over a security detail that failed to station an officer on the rooftop where the gunman had positioned himself, among other lapses.
- The revocation of her clearance is not only a personal humiliation for Cheatle, but also a stark departure from past practice.

- Sandy Berger, who was President Clinton’s top national security aide, pleaded guilty Friday to taking classified documents from the National Archives and cutting them up with scissors.

- Rather than the “honest mistake” he described last summer, Berger acknowledged to U.S. Magistrate Deborah Robinson that he intentionally took and deliberately destroyed three copies of the same document dealing with terror threats during the 2000 millennium celebration.
- “Guilty, your honor,” Berger responded when asked how he pleaded.
- The charge of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material is a misdemeanor that carries a maximum sentence of a year in prison and up to a $100,000 fine.
- However, under a plea agreement that Robinson must accept, Berger would serve no jail time but instead pay a $10,000 fine, surrender his security clearance for three years and cooperate with investigators. Security clearance allows access to classified government materials.

- At approximately 5:41 a.m., while conducting surveillance, detectives and marshals observed Umana Solorzano exit his residence and approach a waiting Ford Transit van. As personnel from the multi-agency task force moved in, Umana Solorzano fled on foot toward North Bow Street. Milford Police Detectives pursued the suspect and closed the distance as he entered the backyard of a residence on North Bow Street.
- At approximately 5:43 a.m., the pursuit ended when Umana Solorzano turned toward a detective, assumed a fighting stance, and reached for his waistband. After ignoring repeated commands to stop, he was tased and taken into custody without further incident.
- Manuel Umana Solorzano was booked at the Milford Police Department at 5:49AM and will be arraigned at Milford District Court later today on the following charges:

- Possess Child Pornography
- Reckless Endangerment of Child
- Photograph Sexual or Intimate Parts of Child
- Statutory Rape of Child, Five Year Age Difference
- Rape of Child With Force
